Twin Giants in Bangkok Art Biennale 2018

Twin Giants in Bangkok Art Biennale 2018

The international art festival “Bangkok Art Biennale 2018” in 2018 featured the famous work “Twin Giants” by artist Khomkrit Tepthian. This piece connects a traditional Thai giant made of stucco and a Chinese giant resembling a carved stone warrior, fused at the torso like the conjoined twins, In and Chan. Upon closer inspection, one can see that the giants inspiring the artist are the giant of Wat Arun for the Thai side, and the giant of Wat Pho, familiar to many Thais, for the Chinese side. The “Twin Giants” artwork was originally displayed by the riverside pavilion in front of the main hall of Wat Arun Ratchawararam and was later moved to the entrance of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre. Additionally, in 2022, the piece was further developed into a work called “Giant Twins” and even released in sticker form.
